How the Premier League table works
Each club plays 38 league matches, one home and one away against every other club. A win is worth three points, a draw one point and a defeat zero. Clubs are ordered primarily by points, with goal difference and then goals scored used as key tiebreakers.
Premier League table, EPL table, EPL standings, English Premier League football table, Premier League points table and EPL ladder all share the same core search intent, so this page serves them together rather than creating thin duplicate pages.
European places and relegation
European qualification can vary because of domestic cup winners, UEFA competition rules and performance places. The coloured bands are a practical season guide. The bottom three places form the core relegation zone and drop to the EFL Championship at the end of the season.
